Description
The Eggplant Raised Sauce Dish offers a simple, lighthearted way to serve condiments, small side items, or even hold trinkets. This petite Arita ware porcelain piece sits on a high pedestal base that lifts small servings above the table. The smooth white surface is accented by fine blue vertical lines around the foot and a single blue eggplant at the center, which comes into view as the dish is emptied. In Japan, the eggplant is a traditional good-luck motif and one of the three lucky things to see in the first dream of the New Year, along with Mount Fuji and a hawk.
The raised shape sets this Japanese sauce dish apart from the plates around it, and it holds soy sauce, pickles, or nuts at each place setting. Beyond the dining table, it also works as a small catch-all dish for rings or earrings on a dresser or nightstand. With its blue eggplant and striped foot, it pairs naturally with other blue-and-white Japanese dishware.

Arita Ware
Arita ware, Japan’s first porcelain, originated in the early 17th century in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture. Using pure porcelain stone sourced from the mountains of Amakusa, artisans created brilliantly white ceramics that quickly became celebrated for their beauty and strength. During the Edo period, Arita grew into a major center of porcelain production, with its works exported to Europe through the port of Imari, where they captivated collectors and royal courts alike. Today, Arita ware continues to embody the harmony of artistry and function, bringing timeless elegance to modern dining around the world.Sauce Dish
Tiny plates are useful in a number of ways. They're handy dishes for holding condiments, dry seasonings like salt and pepper, soy sauce for sashimi, small delicacies, or pickles. Mini plates are also quite popular to collect thanks to their compact size, variety of designs, and visual impact on the dining table.Shipping & Return
