The Shiso Perilla Leaf Chopstick Rest brings a refreshing touch of nature to your dining table. Crafted in Mino Ware, it captures the serrated edges, delicate veins, and layered shades of green that make the shiso leaf so distinctive. The glossy glaze enhances the lifelike appearance, giving the piece both vibrancy and depth.

Highly valued in Japanese cuisine, the shiso leaf is often used as a garnish or wrap for sushi, sashimi, and tempura, and this rest celebrates its cultural significance in an elegant, functional form. The slightly concave shape securely supports your chopsticks while adding a playful yet refined accent to your setting.

Perfect for pairing with other food-themed chopstick rests from the JOC Goods collection, the Shiso Perilla Leaf Chopstick Rest offers a delightful balance of practicality and artistry. Whether used daily or saved for special gatherings, it adds a unique touch that reflects both Japanese tradition and creative design.

Chopstick Rest

When setting the table for a Japanese meal, chopstick rests (hashioki) are a must-have item. These rests are essential for hygiene so the chopsticks don’t touch the table. They are also a wonderful way to add whimsy, charm, and a personal touch to your table setting. With so many themes and designs to choose, chopstick rests are quite popular to collect. It's fun to switch them up for different seasons, menus, and occasions.

Mino Ware

Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century. Typically found nested into the mountainsides, the unique kilns used to produce Mino ware are often referred to as anagama kilns, and the master artisans producing these stunning products continue to adhere to rigid standards to produce only the highest quality ceramics.
