The Sakura Red Lacquered Miso Soup Bowl is a graceful example of Echizen lacquerware, blending beauty with everyday function. Its deep red surface is accented by a scattering of gold sakura blossoms and petals, a motif that symbolizes renewal and the fleeting beauty of spring in Japan. The subtle sheen of the lacquer brings warmth to the table while highlighting the delicate contrast between red and gold.

Carefully shaped to fit comfortably in the hand, this bowl offers both lightness and strength. The lacquer finish provides natural insulation, helping to keep soups warm and enjoyable. Beyond miso soup, it is equally suited for rice, side dishes, or small servings that bring balance to a meal.

The Sakura Red Lacquered Miso Soup Bowl is more than a vessel. It carries with it the artistry of Echizen tradition and the elegance of seasonal design, making it a meaningful addition to both daily dining and special occasions.

Miso Soup Bowl

These bowls are best suited for about one cup of miso soup; recognized as a standard US serving. The bowl's size and shape make it ideal for serving soups, appetizers, or desserts, and the traditional lid helps to keep the contents at a temperature. Due to its unique construction, the bowl does not transfer heat easily, making it ideal for maintaining either hot or cold dishes. These bowls may be considered too small for ramen servings, especially for those wishing to add additional toppings.

Echizen Lacquerware

Echizen lacquerware utilizes a traditional technique of achieving high-gloss lacquerware said to date back roughly 1,500 years. The artisans producing Echizen lacquerware still use the same ancient methods, in which craftsmen paint, dry, apply lacquer and then polish each piece by hand.
