A jubako (重箱) is a multi-tiered Japanese stacking box traditionally used to pack and serve osechi ryori (New Year’s cuisine), picnics, sushi, sweets, and family-style meals. While three tiers is most common, jubako can range from two to five tiers. Each tier lifts off to double as a serving tray for table service. Jubako can be wrapped in a furoshiki wrapping cloth to transport foods for picnics and potlucks.
