More Details

Yamanaka Lacquerware

Yamanaka lacquerware traces its origins back to the late 16th century in the mountains of Ishikawa, Japan. Skilled wood-turning artisans first created exquisite vessels from chestnut, cherry, and other native woods. Over time, these craftsmen began coating their work with layers of natural lacquer to protect and enhance the wood’s beauty. The result was a perfect harmony between durability and refinement—tableware that could be used every day yet admired like art. Today, Yamanaka lacquerware remains a beloved symbol of Japanese craftsmanship, bringing warmth and quiet elegance to the modern dining table.

Jubako

A jubako (重箱) is a multi-tiered Japanese stacking box traditionally used to pack and serve osechi ryori (New Year’s cuisine), picnics, sushi, sweets, and family-style meals. While three tiers is most common, jubako can range from two to five tiers. Each tier lifts off to double as a serving tray for table service. Jubako can be wrapped in a furoshiki wrapping cloth to transport foods for picnics and potlucks. Made in various sizes, styles, and motifs, artisan-crafted jubako are considered reasured pieces in any personal tableware collection.
