Description
Fine blue lines radiate across the white porcelain of the Blue Lined Square Sauce Dish, forming a geometric starburst. The lines run from the center to each corner and to the middle of each side, and the square shape has softly flared walls.
This dish is ideal as a sauce plate for soy sauce with sashimi, dipping oils, pickles, or small tasting portions, and it can also hold dry seasonings like salt and pepper. During a meal, it works as a rest for tea bags or used chopsticks, too. The slightly raised edges help contain liquids while keeping a sleek, minimal look.
This Japanese sauce dish is made by Kousou Kiln as Hasami ware, the porcelain that the town of Hasami in Nagasaki Prefecture has produced for everyday use for more than 400 years. Whether used alone or paired with other Japanese dishware, it suits both casual and formal settings. Its square outline also adds contrast among the round plates and bowls found on most Japanese tables.

Hasami Ware
Hasami ware, a traditional porcelain from Nagasaki Prefecture, has been crafted for over 400 years in the town of Hasami—just about 10 kilometers from Arita, the birthplace of Japan’s porcelain. While Arita ware flourished as an art form known for its elaborate decorations and luxury appeal, Hasami developed as a center for everyday tableware, valued for its practicality and refined simplicity. During the Edo period, Hasami became one of Japan’s main producers of daily-use porcelain, supplying durable and beautifully made pieces to households across the country. That spirit continues today, as Hasami artisans blend traditional craftsmanship with modern design, creating timeless and often playfully charming tableware that fits perfectly into contemporary life.Sauce Dish
