Description

Bring elegance and intention to your everyday cooking with the Indigo Glaze Mortar and Natural Wood Sansho Pestle Set. Handcrafted in Japan, the ceramic suribachi features a rich, deep indigo glaze on the exterior and finely grooved, unglazed interior walls — offering just the right texture for grinding sesame seeds, miso, herbs, and spices to perfection.

The traditional katakuchi spout ensures clean, controlled pouring of sauces, dressings, or pastes, while the indigo glaze adds depth and a touch of modern refinement to your kitchen or table.

Paired with the Natural Wood Sansho Pestle, this set offers both tactile pleasure and practical performance. Made from aromatic sansho wood — prized for its antibacterial and deodorizing properties — the pestle’s ergonomic shape fits comfortably in your hand, making each grind smooth and efficient.

Whether you’re preparing a traditional goma-ae or experimenting with new spice blends, this beautifully balanced set delivers craftsmanship, usability, and visual charm in equal measure. A thoughtful gift for home cooks and lovers of Japanese tableware.

More Details

Mino Ware

Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century. Typically found nested into the mountainsides, the unique kilns used to produce Mino ware are often referred to as anagama kilns, and the master artisans producing these stunning products continue to adhere to rigid standards to produce only the highest quality ceramics.
