Cherry Bark Work
Cherry bark work, known as Kabazaiku, is a traditional craft from Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. It dates back to the late 18th century, when local samurai developed this unique technique using the bark of mountain cherry trees. The bark’s smooth sheen and deep natural color give each piece a warm, elegant finish that grows richer over time. Valued for its strength and ability to regulate humidity, it is ideal for tea canisters, trays, and other daily items. Passed down for more than 250 years, Kabazaiku continues to reflect the refined craftsmanship and quiet beauty of Japan’s northern tradition.
Serveware
Japanese serveware includes serving chopsticks, sauce pourers, tea rests, and cake knives and servers. These pieces are not only functional but can also enhance presentation and support the tableware with their decorative form. High-quality serveware is often collectible and can remain in service for years to come.
