Description
The Imperial Blossom Sauce Dish is painted in the Ko-Imari, or "old Imari," style, which follows the colorful Arita ware made during the Edo period. Its flowing floral designs also draw on the Rinpa school of decorative painting. Bold chrysanthemums in gold and orange bloom across a deep indigo border, and four lobed panels set into the border frame small garden scenes and floral patterns on white porcelain.
More chrysanthemums, with green leaves and gold accents, bloom in the pale center, which is framed by a ring of red and blue pattern. A gold line runs along the lobed rim, and blue vines with yellow and red chrysanthemums wrap the outer wall. The deep indigo and gold suit festive occasions as well as everyday meals.
Sized for soy sauce, condiments, or small side servings, this Japanese sauce dish has enough depth to hold a little ponzu or a few pickles without spilling. It sits well with both colorful and plain Japanese dishware.

Arita Ware
Arita ware, Japan’s first porcelain, originated in the early 17th century in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture. Using pure porcelain stone sourced from the mountains of Amakusa, artisans created brilliantly white ceramics that quickly became celebrated for their beauty and strength. During the Edo period, Arita grew into a major center of porcelain production, with its works exported to Europe through the port of Imari, where they captivated collectors and royal courts alike. Today, Arita ware continues to embody the harmony of artistry and function, bringing timeless elegance to modern dining around the world.Sauce Dish
