Description
Rows of short indigo strokes spiral out from the center of the Blue Willow Rectangular Sauce Dish, filling its softly rounded rectangular surface. The pattern is known in Japan as tobikanna, named after a pottery technique in which a springy metal blade skips across turning clay and leaves rows of small marks. This dish recreates the look in blue on white porcelain instead of carving it, and a brown line edges the rim.
The dish is Mino ware porcelain from Gifu Prefecture. Mino ware has been produced in the region for more than 1,300 years, and the area remains Japan's largest producer of tableware. With straight sides and a flat base, this Japanese sauce dish is easy to use as a sauce plate for soy sauce, dipping sauces, pickled vegetables, or small side dishes.
Its rectangular outline sets it apart from round plates and bowls, and the indigo-and-white palette is easy to match with other Japanese dishware.

Mino Ware
Mino ware is a traditional pottery from Gifu Prefecture with a history of more than 1,300 years. Its origins trace back to the Nara period, when early potters began producing simple earthenware. During the Momoyama period (late 16th century), Mino became Japan’s leading center for ceramics, giving rise to distinctive styles such as Shino, Oribe, and Kizeto—each deeply connected to the aesthetics of the Japanese tea ceremony. Today, as Japan’s largest pottery-producing region, Mino continues to evolve with contemporary life, blending timeless craftsmanship with modern design to support the way people eat and live every day.Sauce Dish
Tiny plates are useful in a number of ways. They're handy dishes for holding condiments, dry seasonings like salt and pepper, soy sauce for sashimi, small delicacies, or pickles. Mini plates are also quite popular to collect thanks to their compact size, variety of designs, and visual impact on the dining table.Shipping & Return
