The Five-Piece Nested Oryoki Set embodies the quiet elegance of Yamanaka Lacquerware, where each bowl is shaped to nest seamlessly into the next. Drawing inspiration from traditional oryoki bowls used by Buddhist monks, the set reflects mindfulness and simplicity at the dining table. Its smooth lacquer finish highlights the natural warmth of the wood, bringing a refined touch to both everyday meals and special occasions.

Each piece serves a thoughtful purpose: the smallest bowl works beautifully for sauces or condiments, while the larger sizes are well suited for rice, miso soup, or seasonal dishes. Designed with versatility in mind, the set adapts easily to modern dining while honoring centuries of Japanese craftsmanship. When stacked, the bowls form a compact and harmonious shape that emphasizes order and balance, making them as practical as they are beautiful.

This oryoki set is more than tableware. It is an invitation to slow down, savor each dish, and bring intention to your daily meals.

Oryoki Bowl (Nesting Set)

Oryoki bowls are a nested set of tableware traditionally used by monks and practitioners of Zen Buddhism. They use these bowls in a formal and meditative style of eating that pays great attention to detail in order to cultivate gratitude, mindfulness, and a better understanding of self. Oryoki sets of three to six bowls are commonly made of wood and are often lacquered.

Yamanaka Lacquerware

Yamanaka lacquerware dates back to 1580 when highly skilled kimono-koji (wood-turning) artisans settled in the village of Masago - today’s Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan. World-famous for their intricately carved wooden pieces, Yamanaka artisans are renowned for the rich lacquer that they use to painstakingly seal and decorate their pieces. Chestnut, cherry, and other traditional woods feature at the heart of these stunning wood pieces.
