This Artisan Cedar Bento Box is carefully handcrafted from Japanese cedar with a paulownia wood lid, combining natural materials with a beautifully minimal design. The fine grain and soft luster of the cedar interior contrast gently with the light-toned lid, highlighting the warmth and texture of each piece.

Made without glue or nails, the box is assembled using traditional methods, creating a smooth, seamless form that is safe, natural, and eco-friendly. The rounded corners and subtly tapered sides make it easy to pack, carry, and clean. It’s a thoughtful option for everyday meals, whether at home or at the office.

Cedar’s natural breathability helps keep rice fresh by gently absorbing excess moisture while preserving softness. Over time, the wood deepens in tone and gains character with use. Simple, durable, and rooted in craft, this bento box brings quiet beauty to daily life. It’s well suited for those who value traditional design and sustainable living.

Note: Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in humidity. To prevent damage caused by this movement, there is a small intentional gap between the bottom panel and the side walls of the box. Please use food cups when packing dishes with moisture or sauce.

FAQ

Why did my cedar bento box leak liquid from saucy food?

Cedar bento boxes are uncoated solid wood, intended for semi-dry foods like rice, grilled fish, and vegetables. Because the wood is naturally porous, small amounts of free liquid can slowly seep through the joinery over several hours — this is expected, not a defect. For saucy foods, drain well or use a small internal cup.

Can I add a gift message to my order?

Yes. You may add a personalized gift message of up to 250 characters at checkout — it is printed on a card and included inside the package. Prices and order details are never shown on the card or anywhere in the shipment, so the recipient sees only your message and the gift itself.

Will my order be wrapped as a gift?

Yes. Every JOC Goods order is wrapped in a traditional Japanese furoshiki cloth before shipping at no extra charge — both gifts and personal orders. If your order includes many or large items, the furoshiki may be packed inside the box rather than wrapped around them. Prices are never included in any shipment.
