More Details
Tokoname Ware
Tokoname ware is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, with a history of over 1,000 years. Made in Tokoname City on the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, it uses local clay rich in iron that hardens at low temperatures and becomes naturally water-resistant when fired. This distinctive clay produces the shudei style, unglazed pottery with a warm reddish hue, most famously seen in Tokoname teapots. Known for their smooth pour and ability to bring out the gentle flavor of tea, these teapots embody both practicality and refined simplicity.
Tea Sets
Artisan-crafted Japanese tea sets comprise a teapot and coordinating handleless cups. Pots come in different sizes and shapes, from side-handled kyusu for everyday brewing to larger dobin for sharing. Meanwhile, cup shapes and materials vary by tea type and season: Porcelain for refinement, regional clay for depth, cast iron for warmth, and glass for summertime.
