Bring warmth and tradition to your table with the Ginpo Kikka Lapis 3-Cup Rice Donabe, a beautifully crafted clay pot designed for perfect rice every time. Its rich lapis-blue lid, adorned with a chrysanthemum motif, makes it as much a centerpiece as it is a kitchen essential.

The donabe features a clever double-lid system that prevents boil-overs and locks in steam, ensuring evenly cooked, fluffy rice. A built-in water level line takes the guesswork out of measuring, while the pot’s heat-retentive clay keeps rice warm long after cooking. With a capacity for three cups, it’s ideal for everyday family meals or intimate gatherings.

Versatile and durable, this donabe also excels at soups, stews, and other one-pot dishes. The glaze promotes even heat distribution, and the pot is safe for both direct flame and oven use. More Details

Ginpo

Founded in 1932 in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, Ginpo is a long-established maker of Banko ware that has crafted donabe and other heat-resistant tableware for four generations. Its collections reflect a careful balance of durability, functionality, and thoughtful design. Each piece is made to support reliable cooking and effortless daily use, bringing comfort and enjoyment to everyday life.

Banko Ware

Originating in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, Banko ware dates back to the mid-Edo period, when merchant and tea enthusiast Nunami Rozan began producing tea utensils in the region. Designated as a National Traditional Craft of Japan in 1979, it is known for its heat resistance and durability, making it ideal for donabe and teapots. Made from semi-porcelain clay rich in minerals, each piece withstands direct heat while retaining warmth efficiently. Balancing strength, practicality, and simple elegance, it remains an essential part of daily life in Japan.

Rice Donabe

A rice donabe is a type of traditional Japanese earthenware pot specifically designed for cooking perfect short-grain rice. The double-lid construction regulates steam and prevents boilovers, while the thick clay body ensures gentle, even heat. The result is rice with exceptional sweetness, aroma, and texture. Artisan pieces are as versatile as they are beautiful, excelling at cooking soups, stews, and braised dishes. With proper handling and maintenance, they can be used for years to come.

The Donabe That Makes Rice Taste Like Home

I’ve cooked rice in many ways over the years, but nothing compares to rice made in a donabe. The plump, glossy grains, subtle sweetness, and gentle aroma always remind me of meals in Japan. This is the donabe rice cooker I reach for when I want perfectly cooked, shiny rice without fuss. Here’s why I love it so much:

1. No Boil-Overs, No Stress

The inner lid is such a thoughtful feature. It controls bubbling and prevents boil-overs, so I don’t have to hover over the stove or worry about cleanup. I simply let the rice cook while the donabe quietly does its job.

2. Gentle Heat for Perfect Texture

Even though you cook the rice over medium-high heat, the thick ceramic walls diffuse and distribute the heat evenly. The donabe softens the direct flame, creating a steady, gentle cooking environment inside the pot—exactly what Japanese rice needs.

This allows the grains to cook through without scorching, giving you tender, glossy rice with beautifully defined grains, just like in a traditional Japanese kitchen.

3. Easy Measuring, Consistent Results

I love the built-in water-level markings inside the pot. They take the guesswork out of measuring, especially on busy days. Just add rice, fill to the line, and cook. It’s beginner-friendly, reliable, and makes rice cooking feel effortless every time.

If you love rice as much as I do, cooking it in a donabe is such a rewarding experience. This one keeps the process simple while delivering truly special results—I hope it brings that same comfort to your table.
