Matsukan

Founded in 1922 in Obama, Fukui Prefecture, Matsukan has dedicated itself to making chopsticks for over a century in the birthplace of Wakasa lacquerware. Building on this long tradition, the company continues to explore new possibilities for Japan’s most essential dining tool. Through craftsmanship and creativity, Matsukan brings a sense of joy and curiosity to the table, sharing the charm and culture of chopsticks with modern life.

Wakasa Lacquerware

As Japanfs foremost lacquerware region specializing in chopsticks, Wakasa lacquerware has been crafted for over 400 years in Fukui Prefecture. Developed in the coastal city of Obama, this tradition grew from daily life rather than formality, focusing on creating chopsticks that are durable, comfortable to hold, and beautifully finished for long-term use. Today, Wakasa remains Japanfs largest production center for lacquered chopsticks, carrying forward a legacy of craftsmanship that balances practicality, beauty, and lasting quality for the modern table.

Cooking Chopsticks

Japanese cooking chopsticks called saibashi (菜箸) are long, lightweight chopsticks used for cooking, stirring, flipping, and serving food. Their extended length keeps hands safely away from heat and oil. Essential in every Japanese kitchen, cooking chopsticks offer precision and control—perfect for handling delicate ingredients and plating with elegance.
