Description

The Blue Circular Motif Chawanmushi Bowl pairs a calming celadon blue glaze with hand-painted crests inspired by traditional Japanese patterns. Floral emblems, a crane in soft brushwork, and circular motifs create a gentle harmony that feels both classic and inviting. The rounded silhouette resembles a small gourd, giving the piece a friendly, comforting presence at the table.

Designed with a fitted lid, the bowl is ideal for serving chawanmushi, helping retain heat and delicate flavors from kitchen to table. Its smooth interior and balanced shape also make it suitable for small side dishes, desserts, or warm appetizers. Thoughtful in form and rich in cultural expression, this bowl brings a touch of refined Japanese elegance to everyday dining and makes a lovely gift for anyone who appreciates timeless ceramics.

More Details

Arita Ware

Arita ware, Japanfs first porcelain, originated in the early 17th century in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture. Using pure porcelain stone sourced from the mountains of Amakusa, artisans created brilliantly white ceramics that quickly became celebrated for their beauty and strength. During the Edo period, Arita grew into a major center of porcelain production, with its works exported to Europe through the port of Imari, where they captivated collectors and royal courts alike. Today, Arita ware continues to embody the harmony of artistry and function, bringing timeless elegance to modern dining around the world.

Chawanmushi Bowl

The unique steaming bowl called mushi wan (蒸し碗) is the size and shape of a tea cup and comes with a matching lid. It's used to make the popular Japanese dish chawanmushi, or Japanese steamed savory custard. This delicate appetizer is typically eaten with a small wooden or lacquered spoon. The bowl is also useful as a dessert cup to serve Western-style sweets like puddings and jellies.
