The Large Five-Piece Nested Oryoki Set reflects the quiet elegance of Japanese dining traditions. Handcrafted in Yamanaka Lacquerware, each bowl is carefully finished to nest seamlessly within the next, forming a compact and harmonious set. The smooth lacquer surface enhances the natural beauty of the wood while providing durability for daily use.

Oryoki, meaning “just the right amount,” originates from the bowls used by Buddhist monks during mindful meals. Each bowl in the set serves its own role, from the smallest piece for sauces and condiments to larger bowls ideal for rice, miso soup, or shared dishes. Together, they embody both practicality and symbolic mindfulness.

In today’s lifestyle, this set adapts effortlessly to modern dining, offering versatility for family meals, minimalist spaces, or refined table settings. Whether in deep black or rich vermilion red, the set brings balance, tradition, and artistry to every meal, inviting both beauty and calm to the table.

Oryoki Bowl (Nesting Set)

Oryoki bowls are a nested set of tableware traditionally used by monks and practitioners of Zen Buddhism. They use these bowls in a formal and meditative style of eating that pays great attention to detail in order to cultivate gratitude, mindfulness, and a better understanding of self. Oryoki sets of three to six bowls are commonly made of wood and are often lacquered.

Yamanaka Lacquerware

Yamanaka lacquerware dates back to 1580 when highly skilled kimono-koji (wood-turning) artisans settled in the village of Masago - today’s Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan. World-famous for their intricately carved wooden pieces, Yamanaka artisans are renowned for the rich lacquer that they use to painstakingly seal and decorate their pieces. Chestnut, cherry, and other traditional woods feature at the heart of these stunning wood pieces.
