Practical, natural, and refined, the Premium Round Hinoki Cutting Board is crafted from a single plank of 70–80 year old Shimanto cypress. The smooth, circular shape makes food prep more comfortable, giving you freedom to move your knife in any direction while making the most of limited counter space. Its rounded form also adds a soft, stylish accent to the kitchen.

Hinoki is cherished for its natural properties. Antibacterial and water-resistant, it helps maintain a clean surface while releasing a subtle citrus-like aroma that brings calm to cooking. Gentle on knives yet durable enough for daily use, this board is designed for both performance and beauty. A prepolymer coating on the edges protects against stains, while the hanging hole allows for quick drying and easy storage.

Designed for everyday practicality with a touch of elegance, the Premium Round Hinoki Cutting Board turns simple prep into a more enjoyable part of cooking.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Unique Round Shape: Allows smooth knife movement and efficient use of counter space
  • Crafted to Last: Solid single plank of premium Hinoki, durable yet gentle on knives

  • Easy to Store: Lightweight board with a hanging hole for quick drying

Care Guide:

  • Before Use: Lightly wet the board and pat off excess water. This helps prevent staining, odor absorption, and moisture penetration.
  • After Use: Wash with mild soap and water, wipe clean, and stand upright to air dry completely.
  • Do not soak or place in the dishwasher.
  • No oiling is needed—oiling may clog the pores, diminish antibacterial properties, and alter the wood’s natural texture.

FAQ

Why does my new hinoki cutting board have such a strong fragrance?

That scent is the natural aroma of hinoki (Japanese cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa). There is no synthetic coating, oil, or chemical finish — the wood's own oils produce the fresh, slightly citrusy smell, long valued in Japanese craft and architecture for its cleanliness and resistance to moisture. The fragrance mellows over the first few weeks of regular washing and use.

Why should I wet the hinoki cutting board before using it?

Lightly wetting the board creates a thin moisture barrier that prevents food juices, oils, and pigments from staining or seeping into the wood grain. A quick rinse before each cutting session noticeably reduces stains, keeps odors from absorbing, and helps the board dry evenly afterward.

How do I clean and dry the hinoki cutting board after use?

Wash with mild soap and a soft sponge along the wood grain. Rinse with cool water first — hot water sets proteins into the wood and causes staining. Stand the board upright on a rack to air dry completely (not flat on the counter), so moisture does not become trapped on one side.

Can I add a gift message to my order?

Yes. You may add a personalized gift message of up to 250 characters at checkout — it is printed on a card and included inside the package. Prices and order details are never shown on the card or anywhere in the shipment, so the recipient sees only your message and the gift itself.

Will my order be wrapped as a gift?

Yes. Every JOC Goods order is wrapped in a traditional Japanese furoshiki cloth before shipping at no extra charge — both gifts and personal orders. If your order includes many or large items, the furoshiki may be packed inside the box rather than wrapped around them. Prices are never included in any shipment.
