Description
The White Wave Whale Sauce Dish shows a whale gliding across the center, its dark back and white, grooved belly set against bold indigo waves. The waves curl into white crests around the edge in the style of classic Japanese wave patterns, so the whale seems to swim through the sea. The design is painted in gosu, the traditional cobalt blue pigment, under a clear glaze that gives it depth and shine.
In coastal Japan, whales were once welcomed as Ebisu, the god of fishing and good fortune, because they drove schools of fish toward shore. The dish is Mino ware porcelain from Gifu Prefecture and belongs to the White Wave Whale series, which also includes ramen bowls, a rice bowl, a pasta bowl, and a tea cup.
This Japanese sauce dish is sized for soy sauce, ponzu, or dipping sauces, and it also works as a soy sauce plate for sushi or a small dish for pickles, butter, or jam. It is dishwasher and microwave safe and sits easily alongside other Japanese dishware.

Mino Ware
Mino ware is a traditional pottery from Gifu Prefecture with a history of more than 1,300 years. Its origins trace back to the Nara period, when early potters began producing simple earthenware. During the Momoyama period (late 16th century), Mino became Japan’s leading center for ceramics, giving rise to distinctive styles such as Shino, Oribe, and Kizeto—each deeply connected to the aesthetics of the Japanese tea ceremony. Today, as Japan’s largest pottery-producing region, Mino continues to evolve with contemporary life, blending timeless craftsmanship with modern design to support the way people eat and live every day.Sauce Dish
Tiny plates are useful in a number of ways. They're handy dishes for holding condiments, dry seasonings like salt and pepper, soy sauce for sashimi, small delicacies, or pickles. Mini plates are also quite popular to collect thanks to their compact size, variety of designs, and visual impact on the dining table.Shipping & Return
