Description

The Red Checked Sake Cup highlights the beauty of traditional Japanese design with an ichimatsu pattern in deep indigo. This checkered motif, admired since the Edo period, is associated with harmony and continuity, its repeating squares suggesting a balanced flow of life. Set against a pedestal base in vivid vermilion, the bold contrast of red and blue creates a striking impression. Fine gold lines frame the pattern, adding a refined touch that completes the composition.

The cup is shaped with a wide mouth and a sturdy footed base that sits comfortably in the hand. Its thoughtful proportions make it ideal for savoring both warm and chilled sake, while the design allows the pattern and colors to be appreciated from every angle.

Enjoyed on its own or paired with the matching pitcher and additional cups, the Red Checked Sake Cup brings together tradition and artistry. It turns each pour into a quiet moment of celebration at the table.

More Details

Ichimu Kiln

Ichimu Kiln is a small pottery studio in Arita, Saga Prefecture, run by a couple who create hand-painted tableware with care and warmth. Blending traditional Japanese patterns with a gentle modern sensibility, they craft tableware that is simple, functional, and full of charm. Each work reflects the beauty of hand painting and the quiet joy of pieces made for daily life.

Hasami ware

The lineage of Hasami ware porcelain dates back over 400 years, and modern artisans still use many of the same time-honored methods to create their stunning pieces. Hasami ware, originating from the town of Hasami, shares close ties to porcelain from the Arita region of Japan, but each style produces its own unique pieces.

Sake Cup

Japanese sake cups are small drinking cups that come in a variety of shapes and sizes for ceremonial occasions to everyday use. The most common type is o-choko, a smaller cup that often comes in a set with a carafe (tokkuri). Another popular type is the slightly larger guinomi. Sake cups are made from clay, porcelain, glass, lacquerware, and even tin. A cup's material and shape are said to affect the aroma and flavor of the sake. These cups are a popular collectible tableware item.
